Purple Star Liaison Training

The Purple Star Award requires schools to identify a liaison who serves as the point of contact and support for military-connected youth and families.  The Purple Star Liaison may be a teacher, a Family Resource Youth Service Center Coordinator, a guidance counselor, or other school staff.  Schools may choose more than one liaison or create a committee that supports the liaison. 


Purple Star Liaison requirements:

  1. Be present in the school building during school hours and accessible to students and families.
  2. Understand the military community and the impacts of being a military family.
  3. Help raise school awareness on the unique challenges faced by military-connected youth.
  4. Provide practical support to military-connected students and families.
  5. Coordinate maintenance of the designation by facilitating recognition activities and updating the website as needed.
